Book 2 - Insomnia - Chapter 1 - Round Two
"Three o'clock in the morning!" I groaned as I rolled out of bed. Still in my jeans and black Tobuscus shirt, I shuffled down the hall towards the noise. It wasn't in the kitchen or living room but it was louder. Then I entered my office to see a message alert on my computer. With another groan I tried to exit out of it but found it unable. I decided the only other choice was to open it. It was some kind of news reel.
"Multiple reports have come in of people being sucked into a video game called Amnesia. A few months ago two cases appeared. After a well needed visit to the hospital it's believed the victims had become sick while playing. They were diagnosed with dehydration and a case of hallucinations. Many others believe they were truly sucked into the game. At this moment no one really knows."
"Pff, I know. It's real." My hand subconsciously moved to rub the side of my neck where the scar remained from the adventure. Suddenly my screen went dark, and then the intro screen to Amnesia appeared. In the few seconds I stared at it in confusion the word Amnesia transformed into Insomnia. That's when I flung myself out of my chair. It was trying to suck me back in! I managed to stumble over the chair and, in a very masculine manner, crawl away to the corner where I coward in fear. The intro screen remained there, mocking me. After a few minutes of watching it I gained enough courage to crawl across the floor to the desk. Cautiously I reached for the power cord. When it was in my grasp I ripped it from the outlet with the satisfying noise of everything shutting down.
"Ha! I win. Take that you stupid little Oh god!" As I jumped up in what I thought was victory I realized the monitor was still on. For a second I swear the monster on the screen smirked at me, then the screen flashed white. I screamed before passing out unwillingly.
The next time I gained consciousness I was in a stone room with cell bars on one side. I tried to bring my hands to my head and ease the headache but realized they were chained to a stone weight. With a glance around I recognized the atmosphere, though I wished I didn't. I knocked my head against the weight a few times in frustration.
"Bro, I thought you'd be happy to see me again."
"Felix?!" My head shot up as I searched for the location of the voice.
"Yeah it's me." The blonde haired pal of mine emerged from the shadows towards me. He leaned over and did something to the chains, to which they immediately released my wrists. As I stood I rubbed them to relax the muscles.
"Did you get that news clip too?"
"Yep and apparently we aren't the only ones yet you're the only one I've found."
"I didn't understand that either. Was it fake or are there more of us?"
"It didn't seem like a fake I don't know but let's get moving." He travelled to the cell door and kicked it open. I followed behind him into the corridor. When a monster moaned behind us we had a moment where we looked at each other like 'here we go again' then bolted for the stairs ahead. At the top was the red velvet door. The loading screen passed and then we were in some sort of living room. It was wide and mostly contained couches and bookshelves. A voice from nowhere made us jump.
"Welcome back my trustworthy opponents. I've been working on a little something for you. Since your last visit my track has been modified to be scarier, darker and even more intensely dangerous. Of course the same rules apply. If you die there is no reloading. I wish you the best of luck and remember: I'll be watching! Get ready for Round Two. "
